An "Etheree" for "Stretch Your Style 2"
Sky,
Green trees,
Rich, dark earth,
Ravaged by war.
Sorrowful people,
Lives, homes, and dreams destroyed,
Defeated and destitute,
Still defiant and oh, so proud.
The sobbing figure falls to her knees,
Hands digging desperately in stingy ground...

Finally finding small dirty tuber,
Formerly disdained, now, sweet treasure.
Starvation at bay, she stands tall,
Proudly defiant once more.
Head high, fist raised, she vows
With God as witness,
"I will never...
be hungry...
again!"
Bold!

Authors' note: The "Etheree" is a ten line form utilizing syllable counts, starting with one, adding one syllable each line. It would look like this: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. When adding additional stanzas, each succeeding stanza reverses the order like this: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1, etc.
