Everyday hundreds of thousands of animals die. But we can stop the abuse.
Everyday hundreds of thousands of animals die. Every minute over 20,000 die. Over 10 billion die every year. Why are these animals dieing? It’s not from natural causes, it’s not because they’re getting old and their time’s up. It’s because of humans.
It’s because we want their furs, we want them for food, for entertainment and for experiments. This might be okay, if we were treating them with the respect they deserve. Instead, we take what we need with little or no disregard for one simple fact. They are animals, just as we are, and they feel pain, just as we do. Many have heightened senses, they see, hear, smell, and or feel things better than we do.
This doesn’t matter to us though, as tear their fur from their bodies, while they are still alive. It doesn’t matter as we hang from their hind legs and slit their throats, leaving them to die slowly and painfully, waiting so we can cut them up and eat them.
We neglect to do something as simple as spaying or neutering our pets, and because of it homeless animals roam the streets. With nothing to eat or drink, it’s not long before their ribs show through their skin and mangy fur. They have to be taken to pounds, and if they’re lucky, the act of euthanasia is used to ‘put them down’. Unfortunately, many pounds don’t have the money for the expensive procedure. Instead, they use gas chambers to kill the animals. It can take up to twenty minutes for the cats and dogs to slowly die.
Then of course... There is animal abuse done on purpose by cruel individuals. Dogs are torture, dragged behind cars still alive, their flesh torn from their bodies. Cats are burned and starved to death. Animals are kept outside in extreme temperatures, with little or no shelter. Wild animals are kept in cages and eventually go stir crazy.
Milk cows are kept in stalls all day, fed pesticides and other unhealthy chemicals to increase their milk productivity. With no exercise and other unethical happenings, it’s not long before the cows collapse and are shipped off to fast food companies, where they are turned into the burgers many of us eat.
There are dog fights, and bull fights, racing, rodeo and more. Strange and normally useless experiments go on. Every minute of our lives, tens of thousands of animals are dieing because we are ignorant to what is happening, because people are heartless to those eyes looking up at us. If we could just do a bit more than sign a petition or two, if we could donate money, protest and write articles in newspapers, things could start to happen. Knowledge could be passed on, and humans alerted. It is up to those that care, the few unignorant of what is happening around us, to start something. We cannot stand by while animals die, because eventually, there will be no animals left to suffer, and it will all come around and slap us in the face.
