to begin a young girl's problems
Her tattered yellow dress was worn with age. It had thin spots and holes amongst the faint red and green stains. It hung just below her knees where its once white frill was now brown with dirt and mud.
As she ran her stained cotton stockings fell to her ankles repeatedly with oversize and each time she would awkwardly bend to grab them up again.
The heavy soles of her shoes pounded into the soft dirt path, as the colorful leaves of the trees swirled around her in a fury. The light of the sun was covered by a thick dense cloud that wouldn’t let up and all of nature seemed to be angry,
The thin round laces of her shoes trailed behind her with poorly tied knots from where they had broken.
Her chest rose and fell drastically as her lungs grasped out at the air in front of her. The rose color of her cheeks from the exhaustion was interrupted by a mix of scratches, dirt and bruises.
She finally approached the school house and the others looked up from their work as she entered the room through the old wooden door.
