my take on the old west and the men that brought it to life...tribute to the cowboy
In a time now forgotten, near a town barely known
An uncommon breed of man, once was free to roam
From the dawn's first twinkling, to the night's countless stars
This man's heart and soul, paid tribute to many scars
Some from the battles against human foes
Others from the rattlers that slithered between his toes
Charred and beaten, dusty and cold
Rough and rugged, yet...dignified and bold
His living was made with a rifle and a steed
Both severely tattered and abused, indeed..indeed
The clang of silver spurs, crossing anold saloon floor
The jingle of silver dollars, itching to win a game of cards
The smell of aged whiskey, like smoke from a lost trail
His legend will never fade, just grow with intricate details
From the 30 hour days, riding 'cross the open range
To the driving of longhorn cattle
Through the lightning and pouring rains
To a dimly lit campfire amidst a harsh winter storm
Yet, ever content to live this lifestyle
And never once complain
I could only wish there was a genuine cowboy
Still taming the Wild West somewhere today!
