Nightmares come when we expect them but that doesn't make them any less terriffing
I lay awake
And stare at the stars
Knowing my love
Is there in my arms

And yet I can't sleep
I toss and I turn
Knowing my nightmares
Will always return

They come when I'm sleeping
Sliding in when I'm weak
I fight the closing of my eyes
The picture's always bleak

The nightmares always start
The second I drift off
And they never end
Till the alarm clock starts up

The nightmares make me cry
The screams tear from my throat
I run and run and run away
Then I get on a boat

I sail out on the sea
Into a waiting storm
The anger in the clouds
My heart it soon transforms

I cry a sorrowfull cry
As off the ship I'm thrown
The idea of me in the sea
Makes my body groan

The nightmare only
Gets worse from there
The angry cold water
Sucks away all my air

I go under the waves
And cry out in fear
And then I startle awake
My face wet with tears

The nightmare comes
Every single night
My only relief
Is the dawn's early light
