This is a poem I wrote after taking a look at myself after an episode of unrequited love.
Sweet Misery

A pleasant sound
which grates
and leaves a happy grimace on my face.

Leaping creeping cracking
boring through the bricks--
like the most exquisite ivy,
wrapping and choking
taken with pleasure

Like steaming coffee
fresh and strong,
scalds the throat in enjoyment.

Sweet misery is searched for,
followed like an elusive animal from a dream.
Tripping, traipsing, trudging after it--
to find the one secret from which everything springs.

Teeth are gnashed against it,
eyes pop in wild eyed wonder.
Overcome with selfless horrorjoy
we succumb.
