History of (Creative) Writing

The history of creative writing goes a long way. It all started in a simple form of storytelling, which is the ancient art of conveying events in words, images, and sounds, often by improvisation or embellishment. . But then, with the advancement of technology, came writing. And soon, storytellers began carving, scratching, painting, printing, or inking their stories onto wood or bamboo, ivory and other bones, pottery, clay tablets, stone, palm-leaf books, skins (parchment), bark cloth, paper, silk, canvas and other textiles.

Unfortunately enough, the ancient writings left by our ancestors are no longer in their best conditions, though some attempts on preservations have been made. These ancient writings don't only provide us with entertainment, it aslo provide us with insight into the worlds and times in which they were written.

During the Victorian Era, creative writings became one of the most popular entertainment factor. This was the time when new authors started emerging one-by-one and write in fresh and unique styles and genres. These styles and genres were the ones that became the vanguard of today's writing styles and genres.

Later on, creative writing began to develop even more, creating a literary trend. . This literary trend was a trend we experienced from about half a century ago till now, a trend in which new authors (usually young amateurs) began showing off their talents and tried to get their works published - even self-published. Long went the time when only scholars, artists, and philosophers could write stories. The literary trend era was the era where everyone could write practically everything for anyone! The most used medium of writing at that time was a typing machine.

After that, came the era of computers. At that time, writings medium was altered from pen-and-paper to keyboards and monitors, and already people used DOS or the more advanced Microsoft Office Word to type their stories in.

And nowadays, we live in the era of rapid technological advancement. Because of such, we were introduced with what is considered as one of the most wonderful inventions of all time: The Internet. By using this medium, the world of creative writing has taken an even further leap. Today, even hobbyists can publish their works online. This made writing in general and creative writing in particular to become more universally accepted.

Soon, sites that accept online amateur submissions of stories began to appear, these sites collect stories from all around the world and store it in an online database accessible from anywhere around the world. One of such website is Writing.com, which is not only a place to read and write, but also a place to socialize and discuss things. The world of writing has juat gotten a little bit closer...
