The nostalgia of summers last breath.
i feel as though those i thought i would never lose are slowly fading, fading in friendship, fading in thought, fading in life. the leaves of our existence that once banded us together are shriveled, dead, fallen........washed away into streets and sewers. they are blown halfway across the country and somewhere in between, they've been lost.
it was last summers leaves that fell from the trees and curled up on the ground, no more life pumping through their veins, holding on to summers last sunrise in all it's warmth and glory...over the long cold and hard winter the leaves were crushed and smothered with the weight of distance, no sun to revive them, no roots to replenish them. no effort to hold on to them....for they are only dead leaves.
the spring has sprung with it's tears of realization and of hope of washing away the pain of the old. it's the new season with new leaves, an entirely new tree. it's the roots of our foundation growing in twisted, awkward paths away from each other, it's growing taller and older and wiser...it's waiting for the weight of the world to either crush it or make it stronger.

we are all just leaves and trees and then eternal sleep.
