True love of a lonely heart, inspired by a snowfall
DRIFTLESS FLIGHT

As I strolled into the dark of night,
Snowflakes fell in driftless flight.
The land before me lay, in shadowy white.

A song of love,
So long, long ago...
A love for her that would forever grow.
A love so strong, it will never let go.

Many a long year has passed, you know.
My love still fresh, as this falling snow,
As are the touches from her, so long... long ago.

Our tree within the meadow, I saw.
It has since grown to a wondrous height,
Where below we talked, and loved, throughout the night.
When snowflakes fell, in driftless flight.

Thinking of those times, so long, long ago.
Tears for my only love began to flow.
As I rested below that grand old tree,
An old man now, hopeless... loveless; me.
A life taken, so long ago,
Memories of her fresh as this falling snow.

A wisp of wind, a glimpse of light,
The reaper came in the dark of night.
The reaper came, so long ago.
So many years, so many snows.
Taken from me, a brand new life.
Taken away in the dark of night.
When snowflakes fell, in driftless flight.

Tonight I knew, she would return,
To take me away... It's now my turn...

A wisp of wind, a glimpse of light,
The reaper came in the dark of night.
As snowflakes fell, in driftless flight.

As I rested below that grand old tree,
Where I visit each year, so dear to me,
Where we made love, throughout the night.
When snowflakes fell, in driftless flight.

I leaned against that grand old tree.
I watched her walking, straight to me.
She approached so slow, a life's dream come true.

Without her near, my life was lost.
I knew my dreams had now come true,
As she came near, reaching out her hand,
Reaching out, to this old man.

The reaper came, so long ago.
So many nights, so many snows...
Tonight I knew she would return,
For this old man... it's now my turn.

As we walked away, into the dawning light,
This young man felt all was right.
As snowflakes fell, in driftless flight.

I turned around to a different sight.
An old body lay in the shadow of night.
I turned away from that sad, sad sight.
As snowflakes fell, in driftless flight.

Once again, a love so right,
We strolled hand in hand, into the light.
As snowflakes fell, in driftless flight.
