I just read "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" by J.C. Oates, and it inspired me.
When my parents aren’t at home
I while the time away
I sit here with a comb
And brush my hair all day
I watch a show or two
I sneak a drink or three
I go with the flow
Always thinking of me.
While my parents are not here
I invite the boys to come
I offer them father’s beer
And cigarettes from mum
I give to them lots of things
What I know they want
They act as kings-
Later they will flaunt.
While they are still gone away
I have lots of time for fun
While away they stay
I play with daddy’s gun
I hold it to my head
BANG
I say I’m dead.
