a poem questioning my life's motivations
Why do I do what I do every day?
Why do I move on this earth in this way?
Why do I fret and worry and reach
for money and things against which I preach?
I speak of high principles and lofty ideals
Yet constantly search for temporal yields
Why do I care about fortune and fame?
When these are the things I view with disdain
I have moments of clarity, when my mind is at peace
I recognize truth and on it I feast.
Endeavor I will for the rest of my life,
to purge myself of this societal strife.
