Spiders and their webs are more interesting than they may appear.
Spider's Web:

A spiders web
Is so delicate.
There are several
On my garden hedge.
It's amazing how
They survive the wind,
Yet they do.

Some webs are empty.
Where have those spiders gone?
Maybe they're lurking nearby,
In a corner which my eyes have missed.
In other webs the spider is there
Usually at the edge,
Watching,
Waiting for insect prey to fall
Into its fragile trap.

Webs change
As weather changes.
In the sun they are
Hard to see,
An impossibly thin,
Almost invisible line
Drawn in mid-air.
My eye follows the line,
Straining to keep it in focus,
Until it reaches
The structure it supports.
In the rain webs glisten
With sparkling water droplets.
In the snow they resemble
Garden, Christmas decorations.

Perhaps there really are
Fairies in the garden,
But when people are close
They disguise themselves
As spiders,
With webs,
Their fairy homes.
