Guess what's for dinner in Daily Flash Fiction
Jonathan had a talent; something that he was not simply good at, he was great at it.

Day in and day out, he practiced his art. He dreamt about it. He pondered it in the shower. He even visited online chat groups to discuss it.

You see, Jonathan was a chef.

It had all started back when he first hatched from his mom’s latest batch of ten-thousand eggs. All of the other spiders immediately went to work learning the basics of catching and eating. There were webs to weave. Classes were held on how to preserve a fly for when times were tough. There was a lot to learn.

Jonathan had no interest in that nonsense.

At first his mom was worried that he would never find his way. Then, one day while at the library, Jonathan came across his very first cookbook. Later that evening, he prepared his first batch of Cockroach cookies. They were an instant hit. All of the other spiders went wild. These were so much better than the traditional Cockroach Tartar.

His fame spread throughout his community and beyond. Soon requests for his services were coming in from as far away as the Hanson carport down at the end of the block. That was a three day journey by anyone’s standard.

The Hanson nest was throwing a wedding bash and they wanted Jonathan to prepare the food. There would be thousands and thousands of guests. Jonathan was not sure how he would come across enough food for everyone.

Then, while reading the newspaper headline “Bully Kid Stomps Spiders” Jonathan got his big idea.

He sent a message to the carport stating, “I will cater your wedding, but I am going to need a balloon, a trapdoor and a web the size of a Cadillac.”
