A poem about a child's unconditional love for abusive parents.
Going Home

They gave me life, not love
Shelter, not comfort
Clothing, not warmth
Food, but they did not nourish my soul

They taught me;
Obedience, not fun
Fear, not faith
Self-loathing, not self-love

They showed me;
I was nothing, not everything
I was in the way, not wanted
I was ordinary, not unique

They made me,
Smile when I wanted to cry
Cry when I should have been smiling

I gave them
Love
I trusted them
I believed I was nothing

Still I keep going home
