Love'sin the air, yeah truly everything speaks of love now a days. The rain, the sunrise, the sunset, the gentle breeze and even the loneliness of the nights. If this is my condition, then think about my dearest love birds. My close friends Aishani and Rasul are in love and its there doing that makes me wonder what love is about. It really makes me think of the expected things which make up your life. Just few months ago you might have thought that these two folks of mine were going to kill each other when they met for the first time. It’s really funny if you try to remember the details.

It was our annual college fest, in which Rasul and our bunch went to Aishani’s college. The Hyderabad summons was an important event for us final year students. The wish to win it had dragged us from Bangalore for the two days. Rasul was the group’s computer expert and also in charge of the management of our group. Aishani was a second year student and a volunteer for their college. The morning we met was a bright and sunny day of September. The event, the schedules and the commotion of all the students had turned us totally on. We were standing near the administration block where the event details were posted, when she came to us. On the first look one could have said that Aishani was not the prettiest girl around. A little dark complexion, about 5.6, long dark hairs and brown eyes. She was beautiful, but the girl with whom she came to us was the thing which might have made us to forget her beauty. Priscilla was her name, a fair “bong” girl a bit shorter than Aishani. With there sparkling white saris with red border these two girls were just pretty cute. Boldly she said “Hey you are from Bangalore right, so has the Shilantar dance group come with you?”

Rasul was never interested in girls and just didn’t want anything to do with them. He was just looking at them; I took the charge and told them that they couldn’t make it this time. I and Rasul introduced ourselves but the same thing never came back. Aishani just told us that just AV was enough of a name for us to know. And Priscilla, well she just laughed and walked away. Rasul was a bit mad about the arrogance of the two ladies. So was I, but I was thinking about Priscilla and her gentle laugh. There was a cold bye and false best of luck, but we knew about that.

I and Rasul were expected to take part in the debate competition. Both of us were in full mood to rumble, but it was not possible. Due to some unknown reasons the debate competition was turned into a man on man thing, not the team event. Rasul gladly asked me to take part in the competition because I was a better orator I guess. But that did not go well and we lost it. Rasul was quite angry about the judging criteria’s and the dynamic changes in the rules which the judges were making for different teams. But what can I say now, every where you might find some people who never wish to play fare. That day was indeed bad for us, especially for Rasul. That morning he had skipped his breakfast in order to make the arrangements for the debate which never happened for him, he couldn’t find drinking water in the college premises and also he was under the huge stress for the events. Next up was the dance competition which was a huge wait for us. The schedule had been delayed because some teams couldn’t get ready in time. Funny but that was no reason for Rasul to get boiled up. And guess who came before him just then! Right it was Aishani. With papers being crushed in his hands he fought with her badly. Both were trying to justify their reasons for the things happening around in their own ways. Aishani, trying to protect the pride of her college and Rasul, trying to explain the flaws in their system. When the things were getting serious then we had to step up and stop the fight. Aishani and her friends were deeply hurt by Rasul’s words. Rasul too felt bad to have not controlled his emotions at that instance. But the thing is sure that, that was the instance when these two began like each other.

Aishani’s mind was floating in amidst the clouds that day. She fell in love with Rasul’s attitude, his passion for stuff, his way of debating and furthermore his eyes. Rasul too was thinking about her but not in the same way. Rasul really lacked emotions and didn’t wonder much about the fight. But Aishani was going crazy on the other side, she came back that evening to catch a peek of him that night. And she did find him, Rasul never saw her but I did. The next day early in the morning she sent word to me and Rasul to meet her near the football ground. I was a bit confused, but Rasul didn’t care about that. We met her there and then we apologized for the earlier day. She did so too, we made friends and properly introduced each other. In the evening she sent words to Rasul to meet her again, but this time a friend of ours was very badly hurt. Rasul was searching for the first-aid volunteers, but he couldn't find them. He met up with her and tried to hurry things. She told him "The person who gets your eyes will be really lucky." and then in reply he said "Thank you! That Friend of yours with whom you met us the first time? Tell her that she is really pretty!” I wanted to say those words but he said it to her. Rasul never understood why he said those words, but that broke her heart. She thought that the first person she ever liked would not even lay an eye on her. She praised him and in reply he spoke of her friend. Aishani was really disturbed that day, we spent the night in the train and she was crying over her wounds. For the first time her pain turned into ink and came forth a poem of her heart. A sad ballad, which spoke of her broken heart and shattered desires. The day Rasul came home he too wrote a poem in her memories. but never spoke of it for a long time.

It was the second week of December. if I remember it well. I told Rasul that Aishani was trying to reach him for months now and he didn’t even reply her single mail for a few months now. He was a bit amazed to hear this because he had not received a single mail from her. He felt bad because he was being accused of ignoring her, but in reality she was sending her mails to the wrong id. Rasul took out his rage over the keyboard and mailed it to her. She was happy to have finally received her first reply but was confused why he was angry over her. Things calmed down for the two of them and then they started mailing each other most often. “Lucifer” was the name which brought there first chat session. And after that, they had their usual chats almost every 2 days. Bless google for that! Later if not on Gtalk then you might find them on the phone every day. From silly things to philosophy, from movies to writing they talked about everything. I really found her poems silly but Rasul liked them a bit. The first time she gave her poems to Rasul, he called it an average. She never expected that her ballad for him would be ignored in this way. But the sorrow was not deep, since she had found someone during this time.

Sachin was from her college and both of them were very happy together. She told about him to Rasul and he was also happy about it too. When I told him that she had a crush on him he was a bit shocked, but didn’t think much about it. He was just happy that her dear friend had found someone to love. Trying to pull Rasul’s leg she asked him if he wanted her to talk to Priscilla about him, but he tried to avoid that. He only wanted to find her match when the time was right and for him that was not the time for him. That time was meant for Sachin and Aishani, and only them. But then things began to change between Aishani and Sachin. One fine day, he said to her that he wanted to end everything. Aishani said nothing but 'OK'. That was the only thing which came to her mind, but behind him she cried. She sat away in her room upset, with Rasul as her only support. Rasul cried with her, encouraged her and made her laugh. My words were just hollow when compared to Rasul’s but we all wished her to break out of the sorrow. For Rasul she was a friend who made him realize true happiness in the world and the only person in the world who tried to understand him. For Aishani Rasul was a teddy bear to cry with, a friend to shout at her and a teacher who showed her the right path. Everything was getting back to normal when Sachin came back to her.

He said that he was sorry for his actions and wanted her back. Aishani was happy that the thing which she considered true love was also true from the other side. But Rasul was not sure about the out coming of this situation. He warned Aishani about this, but she was happy about Sachin coming back to him, so didn’t consider this much. She believed that it was her faith in their love that brought him back. Everything seemed fine for the next month, till there came a one liner e-mail from Sachin saying: “I loved you once... I just don’t now.. I still have to figure out the reason... and when I do... you'll be the first one to know...” Aishani was again out of words, her trust broken for the second time by the same person. She was amazed by the simplicity of his words and clarity in his intentions. Again she said that she was “OK” with the whole thing. In her bad times Rasul was still with her, but this time there was no sorrow in his heart, there were no tears in his eyes. The only thing which was there in Rasul’s mind was a rage towards Sachin. He could not understand how someone could do such a wrong thing to such a good girl like Aishani. He wanted to break every bone in Sachin’s body, but Aishani cooled him down. She just said that life has its own ways of teaching people there lessons and he shall learn his soon.

Indeed Sachin had done a bad thing of breaking Aishani’s heart, but that was nothing compared to what he was going to do next. Rasul asked Aishani to tell him all about Sachin and what actually he said the reason was for leaving her. Aishani said that there was no particular reason for it. In Sachin’s opinion he was not ready to get into a serious relationship. A week later Sachin and Aishani met each other and talked about their relationship. Sachin was really sorry for his action too, but he thought that he might not be capable enough to face responsibility later on. They talked about the gallons of tears which passed from Aishani’s eyes and how Rasul had helped her out during that bad time. Sachin mind rang up and he asked if Rasul had asked her out because they had been like close friends for a long time. Then Aishani told him that they were really close friends and she was supposed to find him a proper girl friend and not be her girl friend. And the one who would be her girl friend would be really lucky. Sachin told her that why search for one if she considered herself worthy. Aishani could only blush and said “it is not up to me to decide that. And first of all, I need time to heal these wounds now.” Sachin had nothing to say then, but I think he really did. Guess he never got the courage to stand up after all.

The next day Asihani told Rasul about the conversation which Sachin and she had. Rasul and Aishani had a huge laugh that day. They thought Sachin was indeed losing his senses now a days. First losing a perfect girl and then asking that girl to go out with her best friend. Aishani was somewhat confused about the things happening in her life and luckily she found a correct distraction. There was a marriage in their family and she had to leave town to be in the wedding. She was going there for a week. You might be knowing the importance of Indian weddings. The celebrations, the colorations, the commotion and most of all the grandeur nature if it. A week of no conservation for Rasul and Aishani was that. With the different events in the marriage she could not access the net to write a mail nor could she call him up with all the relatives around her. Both of them felt the emptiness among their hearts. They saw their need to talk to each other as their addiction. Aishani was busy so did not feel the emptiness within herself but Rasul was just thinking about her the days were becoming difficult for him to bare. When thinking about Aishani, Sachin’s words came to his mind. He sat into the early monsoonal rain thinking about the true feeling which he had. The cold drops of water striking his skin as needles were forgotten by the memories of Aishani.

But then he thought it as a silly idea which might have just arose in his mind due to the separation. Aishani was back and then both of them were back to their old self. A week later when they were talking on the phone and Aishani remembered about Sachin and their past. Rasul calmly said “don’t worry Jaan, look no one is going to harm you anymore, till you find your Mr. Right and my Mrs. Right we shall have each others to give us company right?”

Aishani was shocked to hear these words from Rasul’s mouth. She bluntly asked him “Are you joking? Do you even realize what you just said now!!!”

Rasul was a bit confused, but he explained his part of his story. Two days it took for them to realize that it was the best decision of their life. And now under the lyrics by the Moldy Peaches, these two are “Part time love and Full time friends.”

The fate of these two love birds is still hiding behind the clouds. This story is neither great nor worth spreading through the masses but its my close friends tale. Its there Life and their pain within this which makes it dear to me, but for you all reading this it’s just another love story.
