This is a diary entry from a game. This game is called Half Life Two.
Journal Entry 9
June 3rd, 2011

Its me again, Rich. Im writing today because something horrible happened. In my last couple entries I was in the outlands on some coast. Today, I'm in this new city. City 45. I dont know how it happened... It happened so quick. But the Combine never fail. They wont stop until we are all dead. Thank god I lived to write this at least. So here, I'll tell you what happened...

I was laying down next to the girl I love, telling her how happy I was that we were together. I was talking to Glare. The girl I told you about before? Yea, well, I asked her out. Well, I mean, I didn't really ask her out... I more like asked her to be my girl. We have been together for three months now. It might not seem like long, but we already love eachother. Im there for her, and she's there for me. We're a little corny, calling eachother pet names like "My little  ntlion." or "My headcrab baby." Our relationship is amazing. I was thinking about asking her to marry me. Until of course when the Combine came.

It started out slow, we were shelled twice and attacked by the headcrabs in the containers. We took out all the headcrabs with no problem, considering Lambda is pretty damn good at shooting. But that was the easy part. Next came the real zombies. Somehow they were able to drop them near us and send them off to attack our base. There had to be at least twenty of them. They came from all directions, taking out three of our men. Our snipers took down most of them pretty quickly.

This whole time I was sitting inside watching, along with about six more refugees. Luckily I had a gun, my glock. Unluckily, they didnt. We had about five Lambda members watching over us to keep us safe, but they werent armed sufficiently. All they had were Spas-12's. Which wouldn't do much when the combine really came.

After the zombie attack there was a peace time. About five minutes of rest. Because during that time, a loyalist asshole was tearing apart our thumper. You know, the thing that keeps us alive from the antlions? Well, when he finished he ran off, too bad for him he was sniped down by one of our finest. When the antlions came, no one was suspecting they would get past us. But there was too many of them. They came in waves, first there was ten, then twenty, then thirty. We obviously couldn't take out all of them, therefore we started throwing bombs. All of them died in the end, but seven of our men were dead as well. We only had about twenty Lambda members left, and all the refugees still alive.

We got the thumper up and running pretty quickly, thanks to our technician. We thought it was over, but it wasn't close to over. In ten minutes time, there was an army of over a hundred Combine Soldiers. The Overwatch. They marched quickly with their guns blazing. We had to take out at least half of them before we started to fall. They stomped all over every man with a gun, except for me. I had just ditched my gun before the attack. I gave it to another refugee... Poor guy... Since we weren't armed, the Combine took pity on us. They beat us to a pulp and dragged us by our collars onto a train.

While being dragged away, I looked back at our camp. All I could see was bodies and blood. The Combine dragged all the bodies into a pile and set it on fire. I remembered there and then about Glare. I squinted closely looking for a female body in the pile. And thats when I saw it... Glares body on fire, with over ten bullet holes in her body. I thought right there that my life was over. There was no point in going on. I might as well get myself killed right in that spot. But I couldn't move... I was almost paralyzed, and covered in blood.

When the train stopped, they pushed me off and I fell hard on my face. I was knocked out on the ground, and woke up to a unit kicking me in the side. I stood up, still covered in blood next to the traintracks. I was thinking about jumping into the tracks to kill myself, but I knew better. I got up and walked outside. I was back in a city. People were walking around in the plaza like nothing was new to them. And I guess it wasn't... but it was new to me. I looked up for a broadcast screen and heard the City Administrator say, "Welcome, to City 45."

I had no idea where City 45 was, but I knew it wasnt where I wanted to be. I wanted to be dead, with Glare. I wanted to kiss her one last time. I wanted to feel her hair and rub her shoulders one last time. I wanted to be with her. But I knew I couldn't. A unit told me to get in line for an ID, but I didn't. I just left and walked to an apartment. Thats where I am now, in this little apartment. I found a friend of mine, Miniriot his name is. He said he might help me out by getting me food every once in a while.

So here I am, sitting here, alone. Without my girl. Writing on this crumpled peice of paper about what happened. I hope someone finds this. I really hope I live a long life. And I really hope that wasn't Glare's body I saw...

                                                                                                                                                                                                        Never give up hope, Richard
