This is a short story I wrote because I really wanted to try to write a short story.
Cera had everything. She was smart, pretty, popular, rich, and most of all, she was in love. He is the captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He is also the most popular guy in the twelfth grade. His name is Matt Raven. The fact that he was a senior presented a problem for Cera because she was only a sophomore and they hung out with different cliques.
The first day of second semester and Cera hated her schedule already. She was in World History, Geometry, and Biology. It was the last class of the day and Cera was thankful. Study Hall. She had finally found a class that she didn’t have to listen to the teacher lecture. She sat down in her assigned seat and got out her Geometry notebook and textbook. As she looked up, she found herself staring into a pair of ebony eyes. She knew of only one person with this particular color and knew it had to be him. Matt Raven.
“Ouch. Geometry sucks. Who do you have it with?” Matt asked.
“Mr. Mallory.” Cera replied shyly.
“Oh. Yeah. I had him too. Do you need any help?” Matt asked tentatively.
“Sure.” Cera replied. She could hardly believe it. Here she was with the guy she loved and he was helping her.
As the bell rang, Matt asked Cera if he could stop by her house and he could tutor her. Of course she said yes.
Over the next few weeks, Matt and Cera became inseparable. They went to the movies, grabbed dinner at the local café, and spent every possible minute together between classes.
Cera noticed Matt wasn’t at school Monday and wondered if he was sick. She made a mental note to go by his house on her way home. Right after the bell rang for World History; Mr. Neggars got a call and called Cera up to his desk. He told her she was wanted in the office.
Cera went and was told by the secretary to go into the principals’ office. Now, Mrs. Herron was a short, skinny woman, with gray hair. She asked Cera to sit down and that is when she noticed Mrs. Raven, Matt’s mother.
“Mrs. Raven has just told me some terrible news.” Mrs. Herron explained. “It seems that Matt was killed in a car crash early this morning.”
She went on to say that she was sorry but Cera didn’t hear her.
NOOO! Her mind screamed. It can’t be true.
Cera rushed out of the office and to the bathroom. She couldn’t believe it. He couldn’t be dead. She had talked to him last night on the phone. They had plans for dinner tonight.
She left the bathroom and went home. She locked herself in her room for the rest of the day. Not coming out to eat or anything.
At breakfast the next morning, her mom went up to check on her. She knocked but couldn’t get an answer. Because the door only locked and unlocked from the inside, she went and got a hammer and flat head screw-driver. She then proceeded to take the door off of its hinges.
As soon as this was done, she propped the door on the wall next to the door frame. As she entered the room, her eyes were automatically drawn to the lifeless body of her daughter. She screamed. After she had calmed down, she noticed a note on Cera’s desk. It read:
If you are reading this letter, that means I am dead. I know you wouldn’t think that I would commit suicide, but go to the bottom drawer of my jewelry box. Find the brass key. This unlocks a box in my bottom left desk drawer. The journal explains everything.
Cera’s mother did this and went down to the living room. She sat on the couch and opened the journal to the first page. It was entitled, “Love is the Quickest Form of Suicide.”
