The beginning of a love that was never meant to blossom.
The sun was shining intensely that day. I was walking down the beach towards my mother, who had sent me back to the car to collect the towels we had forgotten to bring, and I could feel my thighs slowly burning in the heat. Holding the heavy towels in one hand, and trying to protect my right thigh with the other, I slowly made my way towards my increasingly impatient mother. A man called out to his son a few yards away, and curiosity made me turn and look. That is exactly the moment it happened.

She was sitting on a red towel in a yellow bikini barely big enough to cover her private parts. I stopped. There was nothing else I could do. I was mesmerized. Her hair was dark, almost black, and it shone like I had never seen hair shine before. A modest breeze grabbed a lock and twirled it in the air, as if to say: "See what I can do. I can touch her and you can`t!" My mouth fell open as I saw her shift her legs and her bikini bottoms moved ever so slightly, revealing a small part of skin that wasn`t meant for my eyes. Her friend, whom I had not noticed until now, stroked her left knee with his forefinger while looking her straight in the eye. Her lips, which was painted red, opened, and out came the most beautiful sound I had ever heard. She was giggling.

That was when I knew.
