This is a poem about a mother with two kids, who's only option is prostitution.
As I walk the busy streets,

Covered in sin and lust,

Even in these dirty sheets,

It’s give in or bust,

You can hide from your poor fate,

No reason to let go and cry,

40th birthday- that’s the date,

From then on you die.

I have to support my family,

They desire more than this,

And I do this happily,

And the rule is not to kiss,

Never grow attached to them,

Never try to remember his name,

You mean nothing at all to him,

Just a few minutes of fame.

Don’t let him get your number,

Don’t let him cramp your style,

Just let him disturb your slumber,

And you won’t see him for a while,

Yes- I know that it’s not right,

And I lose my entire honor,

But we all know that there might-

Be no chances for a low class daughter.

They’ll try to take my kids away,

My beautiful daughter and my son,

But every “Goodnight, love you mom” they say,

I feel like I have won.

They’ll tell me I’m not qualified,

I shouldn’t get to keep them here,

They tell me that I’m living a lie,

I walk on by and they sneer.

I love my family very much,

And I’d do anything for them,

I don’t shudder from a strangers touch,

I don’t blink when the lights dim.

I bought the groceries and my car,

I pay my bills when deadlines meet,

And I know my kids will go far,

Because I’m a mom- on and off my feet…
