This is a sample of a new e-book i'm writing, comment and tell me what you think.
"Land!" cried the spotter on the boat Daldor was riding, he had been able to see land for almost an hour now. He made a note to himself to hire a new spotter for his boat as soon as possible. A man behind him grumbled something obviously rude about the captain of this ship he cought the words "God the lookouts half blind." and "What's the captain, Half brainless?" he looked over his shoulder, turned back around, and stomped hard on the mans foot with the metal heel on his boot, and heard a satisfying grunt, then the man was silent. They were almost to shore.

Once the boat landed on shore, there was a loud clamour, as the crates and tents, as well as 30 men weighed down by heavy armour, and weapons, unloaded from the ship. it was a wonder that the monks at the monestary, or the men in the barracks at the nearby town, hadn't heard yet. At his command, Daldor's men began to march in the direction of the forest edge, that lead to the monestary. Finally, they were almost there.

"There is an unknown vessel on our shores!", "we need to send some men to check it out immediately." John was a soldier in the Papal Army, and his division had been sent to escort the Pope, on his mission to the nearby monestary. Obviously it didn't take long for the men to find out there was an unmarked ship tied up on their coastline, they had sentries placed in several strategic places around the coast. as soon as John's captain was notified, he set up a scouting party consisting of John and four other, slightly lower ranking members of the Papal Army, as well as a group of twelve of the town's militia. The party gathered supplies and readied themselves to go, the militiamen said their farewells, and they were headed toward the town gates. We could only hope that we weren't too late, we could not let any harm befall the Pope. John and his sixteen companions rode forth from the gates of the town, towards the forests edge, he realised that he never really took the time to wonder at how beutiful the world was, and now, looking out over the deep, sparkling blue sea, and the rolling green fields, on a backdrop of bright blue sky, rarely blemished by a puffy white cloud he could hardly take his eyes off of it. But John had business to finish first, anyways, there would be plenty of time for daydreaming when he returned to Rome. John had not been born in rome, in fact he wasnt sure exactly where he had been born, but he was almost sure it was somewhere in the northernmost regions of the Papal States. As a boy, John had always dreamed of discovering new lands , and joining the army seemed as good a choice as any, so far he had not discovered any uncharted lands, but he was happy. John was almost going to be promoted to sergeant, and then he would command his own small squad in the Papal Army, not to mention a notably larger paycheck.

"John?" he heard one man's voice say, "I think theres someone up there." He simply nodded, and signalled towards a large clump of trees a little ways ahead. Even though he was not yet at the rank of Sergeant, he was still the highest ranking of all the men here. John got the other men to stay back and tie up the horses and set up camp, and he headed along the edge of the treeline following the Newcomers unseen. There were Barbarians here alright, and well equipped too, meaning that they most likely had fire.

Daldor moved his men on towards the monestary, he paused for a moment, and heard a rustle in the bushes. he didnt want to take any chances, so he sent two men over to check it out. as they walked into the bushes it looked like they had been almost sucked in and there was an unpleasant slitting noise. He instantly set his men off at a run. His orders were to pillage the monestary, not to endanger his men's lives more than need be.

John stood there just behind the cover of the bush, panting, blood dripping from the dagger in his hand, standing over the bodies of the two men he had just killed. It was a good thing the leader of the barbarians hadn't decided to send more men in, or john may not have made it, luckily for him the barbarians seemed to decide their taget was more important. Searching through the pockets and money pouches of the dead Vikings, john found a sizeable ammount of gold and silver coins, as well as a gold ring with small intricate carvings that may have been Viking runes on it. John let the coins fall from his hand into his money pouch around his waist, and slipped the golden Viking ring onto his finger. John decided he had spent enough time here, he headed off at a quick walk back to the camp.
