A poem on destiny and mortality.

Flesh and bone animated with thought
Hunting and procreation all that is sought
Following its purpose spawned from instinct
So that it does not die and become extinct

Learning to speak instead of a growl
Uttering a word composed of a vowel
Great cities created and machines a rumble
As the old ruins and relics do crumble

Technology created propelling the race
To reach up into the high ground of space
But as steps are taken to go forward
Mortality impedes the progress toward

Advancing beyond the flesh and bone
Forcing our step into the unknown
But not an unknown you would have guessed
Instead giving a feast to an unwanted guest

The great maggot now feasts upon your flesh
Your body now rot and no longer fresh
And so the great cycle is forced to repeat
Mortality giving mankind the taste of defeat.
