a sappy love poem, what else
For the longest time we loved each other,
I told her love doesn’t simply go away,
It doesn’t disperse, and it doesn’t fade
It merely gets hidden under the dirt, and mud of the other happenings of life
She broke my heart
I was alone for the first time since I had fallen in love
I was scared, I was lonely, and I was confused

I figured it would have been if it were meant to be,
It didn’t, so it shouldn’t have been,
I dated other woman, they treated me well
But it wasn’t until I was reminded of her love,
That I realized what I was missing,
By then we had both changed,
She had grown in one direction, and myself in the other
We knew that it would be difficult to make ends meet,
But I wanted nothing more than try

So alone at night, I’d grab a shovel,
Or a pickaxe, or a spoon,
And I would dig,
I would lift pounds of dirt, and years of mud
And I would pile it to the side,
Some would slowly pour back in,
But that never once took my mind off the love I had buried
I have been digging for months now,
I can see it, and almost feel it,
The smell almost radiates out like pine on a Christmas day
I can only hope she is digging as diligently as I am
