‘Twas a most horrendous night -
Grandpa’s Secret…

‘Twas a most horrendous night,
My gray hair displays the fright
That I suffered when they sought and captured me.
For they took me to the yard
Full of graves - including guard
Where they do things that are done most secretly…

It began on Halloween
When they brought me - sight unseen
To the graveyard where they act on evil deeds.
As my blindfold slipped a bit
We passed by a lonely crypt,
Cracked and old – encased in mold and prickly weeds.

“Hail, Satan,” I heard loud,
From the sounds there was a crowd
In the mausoleum where my grandpa lies.
They were chanting, “God is dead!”
As they sipped on drinks - blood red.
They surrounded me with penetrating eyes…

To the Devil they all prayed -
A horned ram’s head was displayed
Near a demon with a terrifying stare.
On the floor a five point star
Was encircled.  From afar
I could see a man in mask reciting prayer.

There were children reaping joy
In their sickness to destroy
All that’s good and all that’s godly here on earth.
Evil parents taught quite well
Satan’s laws - the rules of Hell!
Their pure innocence was lost in evil birth.

When I spoke the chanting ceased;
I then begged to be released.
No one answered – chilling silence filled the room.
So I spoke up once again
Even though it seemed insane!
I demanded to be freed from their sick tomb.

“You’re not a prisoner here,”
I was told I should not fear.
Their superior had summoned me to come.
For my grandpa was the head
Of their cult - and although dead,
They still owed him for a crematorium!

I could not believe my ears!
I had known the man for years -
He was not religious nor a sainted man.
But he was ‘Gramps’ to me…
God!  He bounced me on his knee!
Now they say he was the Devil’s greatest fan…

My dear Grandpa gave big bucks,
Not to mention, several trucks
Someone said, to carry out their Master’s will.
Dedication of his cult
Had demanded we consult
So to settle up old debts and pay the bill.

Their stained money filled my hands
As they went on with their plans
To pay off the debts that rituals incur.
With their cash - they let me go,
Not before they let me know
That my silence would prevent my massacre!

To this day I have not told -
For the fear that they might scold
In a way that’s far too horrid to conceive!
I have led a righteous life.
I’m a dedicated wife.
And God knows that for my Grandpa I don’t grieve…

Who would think that their own kin
Could be part of such a sin?
Dreadful nightmares still awaken me at night.
For my heart and soul had seen
Untold horrors - at eighteen.
I’m now thirty!  And still yet - I’m full of fright!
