Tracking Dirt (poem)

The road is strewn with debris
Making the gravel hard to see
The crackling your steps make
May seem like a mistake

But the debris all around
Is part of what can be found
At the bottom of your shoe
Stuck to it like glue

You may think getting there fast
Is better than making it last
You may think this is a race
And must quicken the pace

To get to the finish line
Ignoring things that define
Who you will be at the end
Not caring to comprehend

That at the end of the road
You will find nothing bestowed
Except for the dirt under your feet
That you track through every street.
