Inspired by a very difficult period in my life.
The Race

A race was once begun,
It was clear I would not be number one.
There always seemed to be
Someone so very far ahead of me.
Then a voice spoke from deep within.
It asked, “My child, what does it mean for you to win?
This one who flies at speed of light.
The one with feet that do not stumble in dark of night.
Though he came in front of all the rest,
He still did not pass the test.
Because he is a child of mine,
I know he could finish in eight instead of nine.”
Then I knew beyond a doubt,
The race was within and not without.
Now I strive to keep my pace,
Remembering His unceasing grace.
And when my race is finally done,
I pray He’ll say, “You won! You won!”
