watching and listening to a summer night as rain approaches
"The Hint of Rain"

Fireflies
Tiny forest gypsies, winged lanterns,
Specks of gold light against a blue black
And white grey sky.
Skipping out of sync to whispy clouds
Dancing with the full moon and treefrog song.
Blinking and thinking with the breeze in the trees.
Peepers orchestrating the moon's flight
In the rhythm of the night.
The hint of rain is a fickle veil
Teasing the growing orb now dismissing treetops.
A misty midnight moment answers only to fireflies, treefrogs,
And a skittish moon.
Soft sounds slipping in and out of the night
Catch the secret between the notes of the light.
