I just found out why my great ideas never get to be a novel.
Characters in my books don’t eat. It’s not like they have an eating disorder or are on a hunger strike, no they just don’t eat. At least they don’t eat out or cook at home. If they do eat it’s only sandwiches or Chinese take home. Why? Well because I can’t cook. It’s a simple as that I can’t cook so none of my characters can. Yes I don’t have magical powers or super hero strength either, but my creativity makes up for that loss. Whereas my creativity comes to its end when I want to write about a dinner, so the only available solution is dinner out of a paper box, neatly folded by some little Asian hands and filled with the standard Chinese chop suey from the diner around the corner.

Here we go. Writing a novel is far more than just adding pieces of action scenes and tactical maneuvers to already written pieces of characters communicating, planning, thinking, failing or falling in love. It’s about the life, the lives of your characters. Nobody wants to read a book filled with grey and hollow characters nobody can identify with. They’re not alive if they don’t eat, they can’t be and if they’re not alive they can’t be real.

Great I just found out why my stories never work out, well I guess it’s time for me to stick with short stories and essays.

Where it’s best not to know what was before and what will be.

Where it’s best not to know too much about the character at all.

Where it’s best the reader never get’s to read about a 2 hour lasting dinner out of paper boxes.
