No one keeps out the bad dreams when I sleep.
I shall awaken and sleep no more,
for when I sleep, no one guards the door.
Your memory slips out and haunts my mind
when my slumber loosens it's bind.
I wake clutching the pillow so cold,
longing to sleep again, feel your hold.

I shall awaken and sleep no more,
memories and tears make my heart sore.
Pain comes and rain falls when you visit me.
I must keep your memory from roaming free.
When night comes, I shall stay alert,
Keep away memories that harm and hurt.

I shall awaken and sleep no more,
guard against you sneaking to my heart's core
You sneak upon me in slumber,
tearing lose defenses that encumber.
Better to be awake and slowly die,
than to sleep, to awaken and cry.

Dedicated to my friend and mentor monty. May the Lord give him strength and help him see the light on dark days.
