This piece is about knitting and how people view those who do it.
As I was searching the web I came across a site that interested me. It showed a group of guys nicely dressed each carrying a medium sized zippered bag. They went into the apartment and gathered around as if preparing to watch a sports event. One by one the men gathered around the reridgerator and grabbed a beer. As I watched the vdeo I noticed one of the men reaching into his bag eager to show the group it's contents. I can't tell you what it was because I was impressed and in amazement that these macho business men did this too. I tried to picture my husband at a group like this and knew that this was a wasted thought.

I continued my search and also found a website where another guy was doing it and his wife thought that it was sexy! Apparently he only did it for her and wasn't ready to go public. As I continued surfing I found out that some stars did it and they weren't afraid to admit it. Maybe this thing that I also love would get the recognition it deserved.

I have been doing it for years but kept my passion under wraps only revealing it to family and some friends. I reluctantly learned it as a kid and at the time wondered why my grandmother was making me do it. Have you guessed what it is yet? It's knitting and it's not only grandma's craft anymore. Like I stated earlier men are now doing it and have their own knitting websites. Also, there are groups of young snowboarding guys that knit hats. They started doing this because in training there was a lot of traveling involved, they got someone to teach them how to knit and eventually started creating hats in colors and styles that they wanted to wear. Doctors also knit to relieve stress.

Knitting was actually started by men. Years ago there were knitting schools created so the poor could knit for an income.

I have often wondered why knitting has gotten such a bad wrap. through the years. Anyone that makes fun of this craft should try it. To me knitting is an art like painting a picture, it takes a lot of time and creativity. I am thankful to my European grandmother for teaching me this and patiently sitting with me while I knitted at least two rows a day. I now make things for charity and have scarves on consignment at a shop in a small town. Among my many other passions I knit because I love it.
