For 8 Teens, a battle has just begun.
Chapter One:

The night was quiet, almost still as Keara walked into the open field. She looked back at the Orphanage at which she lived, St. Mary's. No one was watching, good. Taking a deep breath, she looked toward the looming wood that spread before her. She extended her arms, palms open toward the wood and closed her eyes in concentration. Black tendrils whipped out of her open palms, each one ending in the head of a serpent with purple eyes. They flew toward two large fir trees, wrapping their ever extending form around the mighty plants. Keara ground her teeth together as the black serpents squeezed tighter around the trees until, they dissolved into black particles of nothingness. Keara fell to the ground, breathing heavily. Her ability was becoming stronger, now she could suck the life-force out of ancient trees as well as any animal smaller than a Great Dane. But, she still wondered what use it could be for. Why would she need to destroy things?

She discovered this strange and dangerous ability of hers when she was only 8, when she accidentally drained a squirrel of it's life force. She remembered running back to Sister Anna with the shriveled, lifeless body. None of the Nuns seemed to believe her when she told them it was her. They told her it was a sin to tell such lies, so she never bothered to tell them about it again. But, she did keep working at getting better.

She climbed to her feet again, dusting off her pants when she heard a voice call her. "Keara! What are you doing here this late? It's past curfew!" Came Sister Donna's chastisement. Keara turned to face her with a sheepish smile.

"Sorry, Sister Donna, I just wanted to see the stars." Lying had become part of her life since her discovery, it was just too simple.

"Keara, you're a good girl, but please, set a better example for the younger students while your here." She smiled softly and Keara returned it.

"Okay, sorry." Keara said walking with her back to the Orphanage.
