A mother makes the worst decision she could ever imagine.
That night had been so wonderful, a marker of our one-year anniversary. There were candles, music, it was everything a girl could ever ask for.
It was the first time we made love, the night I lost my virginity.
It was also the night I had become pregnant.
The first few months were hectic as my parents struggled to accept the fact that their sixteen- year old was pregnant. My boyfriend came by every day, and my friends promised to support me no matter what.
Believe me, no matter what didn’t mean literally, ‘no matter what’.
By the fifth month, my parents had grown used to the idea. They responded by kicking me out.
I turned to my boyfriend for help, but he had found another girl and was living with her.
I really shouldn’t have hooked up with a college student.
Every day there was more movement from within my body. I even got to see my baby with an ultrasound. It made my already excruciatingly painful decision even worse.
When the time came to deliver my baby, I did the absolute worst thing I could ever imagine doing.
I gave my baby up for adoption.
I saw my beautiful daughter once, as I held her in my arms, tears running down my face.
It was the worst decision for me, but the best for my baby.
She contacted me when she was sixteen. God, I was so shocked when I saw this beautiful green eyed red head on my deck.
We got to know each other, and she forgave me for giving her away as a baby. We grew a strong bond, and as I’m writing this in an uncomfortable plastic chair, my newborn grandson is waiting for me in his mothers arms.
