Hiding behind a wall, yet needing to see the light...
Behind the curtain
lies a man without conviction,
larger than life
(or so he likes to act).
But within him,
his heart is cold and empty;
his memory
filled with chances missed.
Regret, to him,
is a constant companion;
a reminder
of all he threw away.
Pulling strings,
an attempt to shield himself;
to feel important
is all that he desires.
Smoke and mirrors
keep his weakness hidden,
out of sight
of the of the world around him.
A facade
of importance and disinterest,
but all he wants
could be within his grasp.
Pull back the curtain
and make him face the daylight.
Flood him
with the warmth of the sun.
Reveal to him
all that’s worth embracing.
Set him free
from his own mistakes.
