A short ode to St. Valentine for Writer's Cramp

There are many Valentines within our history,
and surely few of them are saints.
Only one of them has sparked such ardency,
unleashing our loves restraints.

Killed and buried along the Via Flaminia,
his moniker would live on
In churches, basillicas, holidays, oh mio!
as well as a great many songs.

He was jailed and publicly martyred for his faith,
beheaded by law for his actions.
Being guilty of only one crime, it's a disgrace,
secretly marrying christians

He is now the patron saint of love and somehow, plague.
His legend is forever saved.
Spawning celebration and many romantic days
Memorialized for the life he gave.
