A time when love was totally wrong
Every night I lie awake,
Wondering how many steps it would take
For you to come through my door,
Asking for a chance once more.
The time seems to have come and gone,
I wonder where we went wrong.
Was it when we got upset and started to fight?
Eyes filled with tears and blurred sight.
Or was it when you had gone away,
And said all the mean things you just had to say?
What if you were in my position?
Would you be so apt to listen?
Who knows how much one can bear,
When you act like you don’t care.
What use it to guard or protect ourselves?
They have the one thing that no one else can possess,
It is the weapon that can kill and the victim cannot suppress.
When the very one that can hurt us most,
Is standing on the doorstep keeping post.
Life as I know now,
I thought would be different somehow.
I pictured just you and me,
We were a match to be seen.
Now that we’re astray
What else is there to say?
This love has come and gone.
How could love have ever been so wrong?
