It seems I'm in denial about Friday the 13th.
 I'm Not Superstitious, But . . .  (E)
It seems I'm in denial about Friday the 13th.
#1538413 by Timothee

Funny thing, I wrote my entry for the Flash Fiction Contest last night. I woke up, ready to edit it and it wasn't there. No sign of it. Poof, gone. Maybe I didn't save it right? Who knows, maybe it was just bad luck.

Last month there was a Friday the 13th right before Winter Break. I had decided to take my two children to visit their grandparents, leaving my husband home. My friends and family chuckled when I told them I was flying out on the unlucky day. They know how much I dislike to fly .

Being frugal, I had chosen a flight that was not only late, but went to South Carolina by way of Detroit. The night before, I was packed and ready. When I woke up it was all over the news that a plane carrying 50 passengers had crashed. I was horrified, but I was not going to let it get to me.

My husband took us to the airport and we were early, no glitches so far. Before we knew it we were on our way to Detroit. Unfortunately, we had a three-hour lay over. We were in the Detroit airport for about two and a half hours when I heard a rumor from another passenger that our flight was canceled due to weather. As far as I knew the weather was fine! An angry mob was forming at the counter and I went to join them.

"There are no more flights available tonight", was the unwelcome announcement from the young man behind the counter. By the time I got there, he was flustered, having been berated by each passenger on this flight. "What do we do now? Where do we go now? What do you mean by 'no compensation?" was all met with vague answers. It was 11:00 pm and my daughter was hanging on me crying, "I'm tired".

I thought to myself, I am NOT superstitious!

PS: I know this is not a valid entry, and for that I'm sorry. I tried, but I: 1. missed the deadline 2. missed the word count. While editing, my computer locked up with a script error and did not save my edits. I still felt the need to send this to you - it's all true!
