Katrina hit my homeland like an atomic bomb.
Katrina hit my homeland like an atomic bomb.

Everything in her path was reduced to stains on the earth.

She was loud and furious like a woman scorned.

Her power unmatched by anything I’ve ever seen.

I heard every scream she released into the night.

My blood chilled under my skin and my pulse raced.

I walked outside to better understand her, her tears covered my body in a shroud of fury.

I wanted to lie in the grass and scream with her, at her!

In spite of her malicious intent I was captivated by this magnificent force of nature.

My heart ached for her because I knew she was going to die soon.

At the same time I hated her and wanted her dead because she was destroying my home with every move she made.

She raged on through the hours like so many wars then just like that she was gone taking with her the souls of her victims.

This tempest will always be an agonizing memory carved deep in my mind. 

As I walked through the wreckage and devastation that was once my life I tried to find a reason to go on.
