The essence of an african cooking pot
Seated there a squatting pygmy
dark suit of soot
whispering murmuring ego to self
sometimes angry and bubble over
disappointed by disappointing disappointments

Potatoes plantain
arrowroot.. no! sugarcane not!
maize and beans
ugali and stew.

The endless ebb and tidal flow of eateries
suffocates mothers good cooking name
unanimous pondering offspring of the kiln.

If no heartwood begrudgingly donated
by the happily dwindling sapling fund
If no committee chaired by three heads
quietly discussing fiery matters
If no squatting pygmy
to patiently boil matters over

The cup would be called to the stand
and support the plates theory
that the most competent in the culineries
is most definitely not the spoon.
Silent words teetered precariously on three stones.

Seated there a squatting pygmy
dark suit of soot
whispering and murmuring ego to self
in good mood whistling
reminiscing of reminiscent reminisceses

Potatoes plantain
arrowroot..no! sugarcane not!
maize and beans
ugali and stew

Honour the pharaoh of edible pyramids
the true transcriber of edible hieroglyphics
who suffocates mothers good cooking name.
unanimous pondering offspring of the kiln
