Erica thinks she's about to snag the most eligible bachelor. Honorable Mention 4/6/09!
Erica Mitchell patiently waited for Stanford Price to take her call.  Stanford was a gossip columnist for Page Six and would be pleased to hear the scoop Erica was about to give him.

“So, give it to me,” Stanford answered, sounding a little pressured.

Erica ignored this, nothing and no one was going to ruin her day.

“Well,” Erica started, “Chelsea called me this morning from Tiffany’s…”

“And,” Stanford pressed.

Erica could not contain her excitement any longer.

“Paul bought a ring,” she screamed.  “He’s finally going to propose to me!”

Erica threw herself down on the divan in her plush Upper East Side apartment.  Paul Stanhope was one of the most eligible bachelors in the city and he was hers.  Erica was a spoiled brat who grew accustomed to getting her way from a very young age.  Hooking someone like Paul Stanhope, a handsome Wall Street banker, with the added bonus of a trust fund was exactly what Erica thought she deserved.

“So,” Stanford asked sheepishly, “when did he propose?”

Erica, too caught up in her own pleasure, did not catch the change in Stanford’s tone.

“Well he hasn’t yet.” She smiled to herself, imagining her wedding day – gown from Vera Wang, ceremony at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, reception at the Plaza.

“Well why are you calling me?”  Stanford asked, his voice growing shakier.  “Have you read my column this morning?”

“My God, Stan,” Erica yelled, sitting up.  “We are talking about me, you know?”  With that, Erica hung up the phone.

As Erica quickly went through  the numbers in her cell phone, Stanford sat at his desk on the other side of Central Park with his mouth hanging open.  On his desk, was a copy of his column: Mr. Paul Stanhope to wed shipping heiress Penelope Meyers!
