about pulling through as a couple in hard times
Sickness that came unexpectedly
Being one in a million
Should have been someone other than me

Shortchanging the hopeful
Living one last of everything
Most lasts already spent, unwittingly

Sleep is a memory
Thoughts chase in circles
Rest will not come through worry and fear

Syringes bring sleep
The blood that is happening
Stays out of my dreams

Next to me and reaching to comfort
If not in my shoes
You’re on my skin

Sweet child of both you and I, won’t be
Your hand holding mine
Grieving a never-person

Radiant beams and ruby red drips
An effort to give
Years we never bothered counting before

Now wondering how long we might have
Smiles curl my lips
Fond moments poke out of piles of time

Rollercoaster ride
Life tosses you upside down
We’re both onboard though less than thrilled

Reader please hold
The one you hold dear
When love lasts on tiptoe
