Sometimes a tree is just a tree.
Sometimes a tree is just a tree
of branches and broad green leaves.
But you say it’s more than that,
a towering portent of strength.

Watch it sway with elegant grace.
What do you say it is?
A dancing ballerina so fair?
But to me, it’s only a tree.

Listen to the whispering leaves.
What do you think they say?
Ancient secrets forbidden to us?
Perhaps it’s just the wind.

Sometimes a tree is just a tree.
Today it is for me.
But wait and see what tomorrow brings,
it may be something else.
