I wrote this a few years ago whilst- you guessed it- riding a horse.
A view of the country is lovely of course,
but it’s nicer by far from the back of a horse.

A tractor is handy for ploughing a field,
but you can’t go much faster on huge farmer’s wheels.
A shire could plough just as well without trying,
then gallop so fast that it feels like you’re flying.

An open top bus can be awfully nice,
But it does get so busy, and then there’s the price…
On a horse there’s just you and a friend of your choosing,
its perfect for chatting and games and perusing.

Convertible cars are exciting I’m told,
but at speeds over forty it’s rather too cold.
On a pony the wind doesn’t matter a jot,
it’s a pleasurable breeze when you move at a trot.

A bike with a bell can provide quite a thrill,
though its ever so tiring to cycle uphill.
But a horse can keep going the afternoon long,
On account of the fact that his legs are so strong.

For a view, ramblers walk fifty miles a day,
and most often the hedge or the wall’s in the way,
But on horseback the land seems to stretch out for years,
and its oh so much nicer,
yes it really is nicer,
I am certain its nicer,
when you see it
between
two
ears.
