Questioning existence.
God comes down for summer flings
And intimately inhabits everything.
Transcendentalism in early spring
Inspires love beneath birds that sing.
And violent flaps become their wings.
Like harmonious bees that buzz and sting.
Its time to understand and learn to bring
Beauty to all aspects of everything.

Now I’ve been sorry for quite some time.
Respecting what isn’t and loving what’s mine.
Opening eyes to beauty that shines
Through art, or music, or expansion of mind.
I see God’s face from time to time
In a tree or a flower or a light that blinds,
Or laughter or innocence or those who are kind,
Or children or a student who sits and pines.

And yet there are people who refuse to try.
Refuse to open their hearts and eyes.
Refuse to acknowledge their neighbor’s cries
For food or intelligence or acceptance. Why?
