Inspired by the Alzheimer's Project
What's it like?
Spending your days like a word
dangling from the tip of the tongue
No matter how hard you try you can't shake the meaning off
What's this?
Grandma this is your life
Oh I remember you
And I remember you too
Telling ma how I was a smart one
See look
What are these?
Peas
Carrots
Raisin Bran
See she can read at the age of three
And then at the age of twelve I have to teach you the same words you taught me
What are these?
Peas
Carrots
My job is to keep you at the table while mom cleans up
The maggots
From the meat you left on the counter for days
She wipes down the counter and puts the dishes away
Every day
Like a broken record
That jolts you back to the widening gap
Between your past and your future
The present is a reoccurring nightmare
Where yesterdays and tomorrows
are identical to today
I remember you
I remember you too
What's your name again?
