Love is a lasting bond
Written for ShiShad’s Stroll Down Memory Lane contest
Prompt-1

Love never forgets

A well-known couple they were
Steve Masters and Stacy Summer
Grew up together in the same place
Separated later compelled by life’s pace.

Stacy’s father was a true son of the countryside
Grew maize and barley, his farmland, his pride.
His daughter, a deft housekeeper, had a passion
To learn music, the food of love and compassion.

Father Summer cared for his daughter dear
Her mother’s image, a sweet soul without fear.
Stacy’s wish to excel in the divine art of music
Realized; After training, she joined a philharmonic.

Soon she rose to the praised rank of a soprano
Groomed by the watchful maestro from Milano.
The old master alas, gave in to age, a weak lot
A conductor of formidable talent, filled the slot.

Stern and superior, tall and commanding he wielded
The rhythmic baton, and trained a team that excelled.
Of a sudden, once, by hazel eyes, his heart was enmeshed
Her tresses long and flowing, her pale pink face, blushed.

She too caste a surreptitious eye on his figure handsome
Recognition dawned, ah, Steve! his smile, ever winsome.
Parted that day but in constant thought of one another
The next day, on a woody path, they faced each other.

Close encounter on that spring day made him wonder
If it was his long lost dream, his love, Tracy of yonder.
Her willowy tallness stirred his dormant memories
of days spent together, in much frolic, and happiness.

Music, love and a rare companionship drew them close
She took him to her father, who still tended many a rose.
The old eyes were soothed by the welcome sight
He knew, Tracy’s childhood friend suited right.

Thus began a courtship that lasted for a year
The couple spent time in ardor and never a tear
Steve’d sit out reading notes and making a tune
Birds too sang in the trees, the sky and the dune.

She would take him on a sudden delightful flight
Closing his eyes with palms, petal-soft, feathery light.
He would make a guess, a thrilling pretence
Filling her heart with a flush of joyful bliss.

There wasn’t a couple as ideally suited
Nor there be again who loved and looted
The pleasures of a shared passion and a life
Of musical harmony, the joy of man and wife.

I re-lived the fun and games they shared
Watched them grow, after a gap reunited.
When I saw them together and happy still
Steve and Stacy, a well-known couple.
