Hamilton’s College: Making a Mark in Time

Hamilton’s College: Making a Mark in Time

A Prospectus

Hamilton’s College is a unique institution that helps gifted children to prepare for the challenges of the fast paced environment of the western world. It is in a college environment that offers subjects at secondary school level as well as a curriculum that even branches out into University level learning.

At Hamilton’s our broad multi-cultural spectrum includes students that speak English as a first and or second language from a wide range of countries. The ages of our students range between 15 to 19 years of age, and upon occasion we have also accepted applicants as young as 13 years old.

During school semester there are no more than 70 students at a time attending college which provides our students an individualistic approach to their welfare and education. There is a full time school counselor that works one on one with the students to ensure that we are crafting our education directly to their needs.

At Hamilton’s College we are more than just a boarding school. We offer our students their own individual bedrooms that supply a heater, bed, closet, draws, mirror, book shelves, desk and chair. From our experience we have found that students who have their own rooms can study better and fully apply themselves to their chosen courses in life. The Dormitories are on the ground floor, first floor and second floor, with each floor one teacher is assigned as Den Mother or Den Father. There are approximately 22 bedrooms per floor, with two bathrooms, one for girls, one for the boys. Our dormitories are co-ed, with a communal recreation room that has a TV and VCR/ DVD player, as well as some indoor sport activities such as table tennis.

All of the meals served in the Cafeteria are selected by a certified nutritionist. We also cater for special dietary needs such as Diabetes, Vegetarian, Kosher and Halal. Once a week on Saturday nights there are ‘fun nights’ where students can choose to eat either hamburgers, hot dogs, French Fries etc. and this is the only night of the week where soda, or ‘soft drink’ or chocolates are served.

In the cafeteria, meals are served five times a day:
• Breakfast 7:30 AM
• Morning Tea 10:30 AM
• Lunch 12:30 PM
• Afternoon Tea 3:30 PM
• Dinner 7:00 PM

Our school year is loosely based on the Canadian school year, where first semester starts approximately* the 1st of September and up until approximately to the 20th December where school closes for two weeks for Christmas and New Years Holiday. Then the second semester is from approximately the 20th of January to approximately the 30th of May. **

*Approximately is used as dates may change due to the calendar cycle.

**Students have a week off class during April over Easter, but since the holiday is so short, international students may not have the chance to return home during this time.

Class times during the school semester are:
• 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
• 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
• 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM

Hamilton’s College is just 10 kilometres outside of the township Brownsville, Ontario. The town has a small airport and heli-pad, a country hospital with a Dentist where we take our students for check ups or appointments, Fire Station, RCMP station, cinema and a hotel. Brownsville is located on the edge of Lake Laura, where Hamilton’s College is just on the other side of. Hamilton’s College has a good relationship with the township of Brownsville. On occasion the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on their days off, volunteer to take the students walking in the World Heritage Protected Pine Forrest that surround the college and township, as well as teaching the students how to Kayak in summer and ice skate in winter on the lake.
