Two five year olds finding the true meaning of friendship!
Last year right after getting to Lithonia, Nuni wanted to go out in play, this was March 2008. He seemed a little shy at because up North he didn't have the opportunity to play with children his own age, but here in Georgia they were everywhere. As Nuni started acquainting himself with the children one child stood out of the crowd and he walked toward the house with him enthusiastically introducing him to us, "this is Zack my new best friend" then looked at Zack and asked him, "right?". Zack nodded yes and they both walked away. I looked at Shelly and smiled. Time went by and the boys were getting closes and closer. They even walked around with their Spider Man suits pretending they were the same super heroes. They did everything together, fighting for each other and fighting with each other as best friends usually do. This was a friendship that was meant to be. Sometimes Nuni disappeared early in the morning and spend the whole day with Zack. Other times he wouldn't even come home. What was Zacks was nuni's: even the mothers. Nuni called Zacks mom "ma" and Zack called me "grandma".
Zack's parents too care about my grandson as if he was their own. They took him everywhere and my grandson came in so proud talking about his adventure with Zack's family. We became very close his family and us to the point that the boys were no longer friends: they were "Brothers". Imagine two five year old feeling that kind of love. It's been one year and five months since the boys found each other, but you see friendship is forever no matter what turns life may take.
Two little boys who found nothing different about themselves, saw beyond color and even language. I remember Nuni learning to ride a bike for the first time and then Zack, Nuni driving his cadillac truck and Zack his red Mustang. They were driving like they had a license. I watch these two wonderful children change from one emotion to another and then greet each other with a hug. They were fifty percent of one another. I guess nothing will ever change, one thing is for sure Zack will live in my heart forever.
Yesterday June 19, 2009 Nuni went to spend some time with Zack, but Zack was sick and Nuni couldn't be there. I sensed something was wrong the days were getting closer and Zack was on his journey.
This morning, June 20th, 2009 Zack left this earth, he went to rejoice in his new life in heaven. You see Zack had cancer and his time here was limited, but Nuni and the families were able to create a bond that will never be broken. This little magnificent angel taught us how to love and accept each other without judgment. I will remember Zack not as the dying little boy, but the child full of life with a smile so humble who taught us humility, understanding, and acceptance.
I will show Nuni pictures of Zack, his brother who went to heaven to become his guardian angel. Zack will be part of our live, part of the lesson that no adult can ever come to know.
He is now in his celestial kingdom enjoying the benefits Jesus promised. No more, sorrow, pain or tears. A new birth that we will one day I come to know. Yes I will miss Zack's smiling face, and the goofy faces he made, I will miss him riding his bike and driving his Mustang power wheel but most of all I will miss my spider man, my hero with the dirty face. You're last days with Nuni will be cherished forever.
Farewell my grandson until we meet again. We will all miss you and forever you will be Nuni's Twin brother from a different mother.

REST IN PEACE
