This poem is about the inability to forget a long lost lover.
When will they release me?
These thoughts and memories of you.
The truth is that they haunt me
but truthfully I want them to.

I need not but close my eyes
and your face will appear before me
spitefully thrusting truth into my world of sordid lies
allowing me some joy and peace, if only momentarily.

No other face could light my dark
no other eyes could find me.
It is your name, which holds my heart
It is the memory of our desperate love that binds me.

For too long I've tried to fight you off
but your hold on me is relentless.
Well, now I'm weak and through with fighting
My mind and heart at war, I pray my heart will be victorious.

Love of my life you'll always be
but a life without you, I'm quickly realizing
is not one where I'll truly live
because without you I'm only just surviving.
