Smiles spiked high
into that
brilliant white.
Only to rain back
down deep into
dark shades of blue.
Spiraling exhaustion
mixed with
forced plastic looking
masks.
Insistent need for
affection and
attention
countered with
times of
social irritation.
Erratic forms of
patience for
those who just
want to see me
smile.
The willingness to
do any of those
just as long as
it keeps me
from being dropped
into that
numb shade of
grey.
