A poem about how something that is a mistake can make you the person you are
I cannot love you
Because you cannot look beyond the mistakes I have made.
How do you love me and not my mistakes
When those mistakes make me who I am?

When I look at you
I have to fight with my heart
Not to love you,
To not want to touch you.

But how is it that I can allow your very touch
To make me weak at the knees?
To want to be with you?
To want to kiss you?

Then, your coldness reminds me
Why I fight against your love,
Why I cannot accept it
Because if I give in to you, I would deny everything I am.

I cannot love you,
And you cannot look beyond yourself
Because you are one of the mistakes I have made
And therefore,

It is you who makes me who I am
