A gigantic metaphor I wrote long ago.
A static hum.

A menacing hiss from somewhere in the shadows

The frequent glint of a prying eye, devouring the bad and leaving the good broken.

This meager display was meant to sow fear, and inspire...what? Doubt of things as solid as the wall he was backed up against? This was pathetic. Their forked tongues were as sharp as razor wire, and Poison dripped from their mouths and fell in slow motion, as if every drop were a well posed threat. If only his body were as free and untethered as his mind, wings made of blinding light more beautiful than the most vivid of stars, would tear their way out of his back. Light would throw itself upon the shadows. He would soar upward and out of this dark hole, he would find Her. The darkness drew closer still and whispered in his ear. He laughed. They would try to take away the determination and perseverance that were not merely a part of him, but were all of him. They would never succeed.

They lashed out and cut him, tore into his chest. He laughed. “Its not here you fools.” They were looking for his heart. Searching, so that they could crush him ,rip, tear, and destroy him. They would fail once again. He had given up his heart a long time ago. They could tear him apart physically, there was no doubting that. But physicality was nothing to him. He was all but invulnerable.

He held a spark within him that was indistinguishable. It burned him and ignited a passion that sent fire from his hands and lit up the darkness. They wailed and tore at their black eyes, they threw themselves upon him to smother the flame.

They wrapped themselves around him, imbedded their tails, teeth and tongues, he dripped with their poison. He imagined that he saw a light, but it was simply her face lighting up his thoughts. The fire within him released itself with a white fury that was a match for hell itself the creatures burned and shrieked in pain. They tried to flee but the fire sought them with a vengeance and soon nothing was left but ash. The fire, the blinding light, retreated back within him, he sank to his knees and sighed. They never had a chance. But he was still stuck in this darkness, left to wait and ponder untill the light found him again, and he could be with her. terrible sounds issued from the darkness. No doubt legions of creatures more terrible than the last, things that would make the devil himself shiver. He stood up. Let them come. He smiled, They would all fall before that which raged within him, all consuming and righteous. And after this horrid place ran out of things to throw at him, He would wait. He did love her after all.
